Abrasion resistant wear plates or steel wear liners are used in many applications where friction between two parts of a machine creates wear and tear that could lead to degradation. These plates or liners of the machine prevent excessive wear or damage to expensive equipment, but are considered to be unimportant.
Steel wear plates may form a covering on a machine that slides or rotates in the manufacturing process or at places where manufactured parts or minerals are continuously rubbing or abrasively cutting the surface. Wear plates are generally a 6mm steel plate that is very durable, even during harsh conditions.
Companies that have units dealing with steel mills, pipe mills, chemical industries, mining and military etc need these wear liners. In short it can be said that companies that have equipments whose components slide against each other or exposed to corrosive or abrasive materials need liners to protect the expensive equipments.
Wear plates can be made from different materials. Aluminum and bronze are other metals which are used as liners. Steel liners have become a popular choice because it is resistant to many chemicals and light weight.
Few examples of machines or components of machines that require wear plates or liners are
- Crushers
- Shredders
- Casting equipment
- Steel and aluminum mill equipment
- Heavy earth moving and lining equipment
Wear blades, choppers, scrapers, mining tools, chippers, punch press application, wear rings, bucket scrapers etc are few areas that need liners because of abrasions. The harder the plate used as liners, the longer it will last in service.
